Filings are an important procedure performed by dentists that help keep teeth from decaying.
Most people have had or will have a cavity during their life.
The sooner you visit the dentists to get a cavity treated, the less tooth decay will occur. For the majority of patients, filings are used to “fill” the area of a tooth where a cavity was removed. When oral decay is removed from a tooth, something must be put in the empty space in order ot prevent further damage in that area. A filling is kind of like a retaining wall for the inside of your tooth. They prevent any further damage to a tooth that has been the subject of decay, has cracked, or chipped.
At Dental Town, we can also replace old or dark fillings to enhance both your smile and overall oral health. We want our patients to enjoy a natural looking smile and aim to use filings that blend in with the color and shape of your teeth.
During a filling procedure, a local anesthesia will be used. The decay or damaged areas of the tooth will be gently removed with the goal of preserving as much of the natural tooth as possible. The filing material will be placed in to the area then cured with a special light. After the procedure the tooth will be polished and adjusted to make sure it fills well in your mouth.
When are our dental fillings necessary?
We recommend using a dental filling to treat a cavity, prevent further decay, and repair a cracked or broken tooth. If you think that you may have a cavity or if you have tooth decay that needs to be removed and replaced with a dental filling, please give us a call today!
