Elastic Bands (rubber bands)

Palatal Expander
A palatal expander is a metal expander that is attached to the permanent molars. The expander widens (expands) the upper jaw by applying a gentle force to the molars each time it is adjusted. This increases the size of the mouth and allows more room for adult teeth to grow in more comfortably.
Retainers
Retainers are a custom-fit plastic or wire that are placed over the teeth to keep them from moving. Retainers can be worn during the day or overnight and are usually removable. We will instruct you on how to care for your retainer and when to wear it.
Separators or Spacers
These small rubber doughnuts are placed between the teeth to push them far enough apart so there is enough space for the placement of orthodontic bands at a following appointment.
